“Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, ‘No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.’”

          Revelation 19:10 NLT

If the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus then how we conduct ourselves as we are used prophetically is enormous. Prophecy is not a testimony for us but of Jesus. As we prophesy we give clear witness. If people don’t see Jesus in our prophecy we have lost the essence of prophecy.

I Corinthians 14:32 in the NLT reads, “Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.” People who prophesy are not out of control. If they are out of control and feel that’s the way God uses them they are not giving a clear witness of Jesus. They are presenting God and the things of God in a strange way. Neither God nor His Spirit are strange and we should not convey that in our behavior as we are being used by Him.

Also let's not confuse being touched by Him with being used by Him. I’ve seen people drop to the ground, weep, tremble, even spontaneously dance as God touched them. When the 120 came out of the Upper Room the people thought they were drunk (Acts 2:13). God’s supernatural touch can bring the strongest man to his knees. That being said, God’s use of us and His flowing through us require only one response, and that is obedience.

Our response to God indicates our heart for God. As we respond in obedience there should be nothing weird about it. We add the weird to God’s wonder. Weird has to do with our flesh and wonder has to do with God’s Spirit. If our ultimate goal is that Christ is seen in and upon our lives then we should bring as little flesh to the table as possible. Ask the Lord to forgive you for the times your flesh got in the way of His use. As God restores you, write what He said for future encouragement.
